Christmas Cube Decorating Contest

My new company has a Christmas cube decorating contest every year, and since this is my first year I decided to go all out and show everyone what a real crafter can do. My competition was a woman who has won every year but all of her decorations are store bought making it seem unoriginal. I knew with some effort and as little money as possible I could craft something that would show up her fancy expensive decor.

I started with a theme: The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.

First thing first, I needed a Grinch. Buying one was out of the question because I was doing this on the cheap. So I used this post: http://dabblethehutt.com/projects/grinch-yard-art/ and just swapped the wood with cardboard. I spent $4 on cheap paint from Meijer and got the cardboard from my basement.

Here it is almost done. I am not a painter and I can't draw if my life depended on it, but the instructions in the post above are great and I think it turned out pretty good.
I set him up outside my desk as if he were stealing the lights off of my cube.

My next project was an ornament wreath. I've been wanting to do one of these for months because of all the awesome posts on Pinterest. I made mine mostly green because of my Grinch theme. It took more ornaments then I thought it would but I got all the supplies from the dollar store and made it for about 6 bucks.
The most time consuming part of this project was the snowflakes. I made about 50 of them and it was a huge pain. It took hours and that was with my boyfriend's help. I drew the designs and he cut them out. I also made that sign in the back which was pretty easy with cardboard and the paint I had already bought for the Grinch.

I covered the entire cube in red dollar store wrapping paper. It made my cube so bright and festive that nobody could keep their eyes off it. I hung some tissue paper puff balls from the ceiling. Those were very easy to make using some pinterest posts. And they were perfect for my theme, they were very Dr. Seuss looking.
And finally I added a tree and covered the walls with fake snow (cotton balls strung on clear string). Also another very time consuming project. Anyway it was worth it because I walked away with first prize!!
